Free software is a category of open source software (the source code is available to public) that emphasizes "freeness" not only in the monetary sense (free as in gratis) but also in the freedom sense (free as in freedom).

Examples of well known free software licenses include the GPL and the BSD license. Various Wincent products have been released under these licenses, including WinSwitch, Walrus and others.
