Display resolutionsEdit
- 8K: approximately 8,000 horizontal pixels; example (8K UHD) is 7,680 × 4,320.
- 5K: approximately 5,000 horizontal pixels; example: 5,120 x 2,880 (16:9 aspect ratio, 218 ppi at 27") as seen on iMac Retina 5K etc; generally these displays require a special connector such as dual DisplayPort.
- 4K: approximately 4,000 horizontal pixels; in 4K UHD standard that means 3,840 × 2,160 (ie. 165 ppi at 27"); the 4K Retina iMac uses the non-standard size of 4,096 x 2,304 (16:9 aspect ratio, 219 ppi at 21.5").
- 1440p (AKA "WQHD", "QHD", "Wide Quad HD" or "Quad HD"): 2,560 x 1,440 (16:9 aspect ratio, about 109 ppi at 27").
- 1080p (AKA "FHD" or "Full HD"): 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio).
- Ultrawide HD: 2,560 x 1,080 (21:9 aspect ratio).
- FullHD+: 2,160 x 1,080 (2:1 aspect ratio).
- 720p (AKA "HD"): 1,270 x 720 (16:9 aspect ratio).
- Retina: almost meaningless at this point because it has been applied to so many high pixel-density devices over the years; but a representative example would be the 2,880 x 1,800 display (16:10 aspect ratio) as seen on 15" MacBook Pro (221 ppi).
