Slow startup in large project

Hi, I'm using command-t in a large project, and everytime i open a new instance of vim, it takes around 10 seconds before I can start using command-t properly. I was wondering whether there exists, or whether you can implement a persistant cache mode, similar to what IDEs like eclipse use, so that the folder doesn't have to be scanned every time. This would probably also involve having to manually tell command-t to refresh the cache, but I feel that this would be faster than having a very slow startup every time.
