What version of Mac OS X are you running? If Leopard you'll have to stick with Synergy for now; I am currently ironing out the last compatibility issues with Synergy Advance on Leopard.
I wouldn't expect moving iTunes to actually prevent Synergy from starting but I wouldn't be surprised to see some anomalous behaviour, at least until things "settle in". Specifically, when you move an application the information in the "Launch Services" database may become out of date; once you get it up to date I would expect everything to work normally.
So some things you could try:
- reboot
- manually quit and then relaunch iTunes
- uninstall and then re-install Synergy
- manual reset the Launch Services database
To do the latter you would need to use the
lsregister
tool. At least on Leopard, it's location is/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister
. Something like:# reset the database /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill # rescan absolutely everything /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -R /
That might be a little invasive though, so I'd recommend trying it only as a last resort.
Finally, what version of Synergy were you running? It might be worth using the stable 3.2.1 release rather than the experimental 3.5 alpha. There is a known bug in Mac OS X 10.5, 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 which can cause the 3.5 alpha to crash. I am hoping the bug is fixed in 10.5.3 because I haven't seen any crashes yet, but I'll have to wait for some time before I'm convinced that the issue really is gone for good.

I am using 10.5.3, Synergy 3.2.1.
I decided to try step 1) Reboot, and now things seem to be working all right. I had tried quitting and restarting iTunes and uninstalling and reinstalling Synergy without success. I'm just glad it's working again. I didn't realize quite how useful it was until it was gone.
