Thanks for filing this issue. In order to solve it I'll need a bit more information about your set-up.
Can you tell me how the drive is connected? FireWire? USB 2.0? Network mount? etc.
And how is your iTunes library configured? What's its location as defined in the "Advanced->General" tab of the iTunes preferences?
How did you add the music that's on the external drive to iTunes? Via drag-and-drop? Some other method? Are you accessing this iTunes Shared Playlist (network) functionality?
Can you send me a copy of your iTunes Library XML file? Either attach it to this bug report, or if you are concerned about confidentiality email it directly to me. The XML file normally resides at "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music Library.xml", unless you've changed the location of your Library from the default.
Basically, the more information you can provide, the better.

Ah, I understood from your initial post that you had some music on an external drive and the rest in the default location.
i will send a copy of the XML thru email.
Thanks for that.

Actually it shows some music from another music library, which is odd, considering i'm not using it right now. And yeah that one is located in the default location.

Ok, pulling it down now. Should take about half an hour at the current rate.
The XML file is raw text, so you'd probably get a pretty good compression rate if you zipped it up. (Just something to consider in the future).
It's 2 AM here so I'll take a look at this tomorrow.

Ok, I've had a look at this and I can't see any clues as to why some music might be shown and other music not.
Note that when you define the location of your iTunes Music Library in the iTunes preferences you are not actually limiting it to only the music files in the selected folder. If you drag music onto iTunes or otherwise add it, iTunes will show it in the library view (and it will be recorded in the XML file).
There's also the preference for "keeping the music library organized", which means that iTunes will actually copy all added files into the folder; but I think most users don't have that turned on (not sitting at a clean account right now, but I think the setting defaults to off).
So I'm actually at a bit of a loss as to why the music isn't showing up in the menu.
