Ok, I believe I've now fixed this, although I was never able to reproduce the problem so I can't actually test it. Nevertheless, I've audited the code of the crashing method and put in a couple of safeguards that should prevent this kind of error from being produced. I suspect the cause was inadvertently passing nil to an NSMutableString's setString: method, which the docs warn not to do.
Adding the "fixed-in-prerelease" keyword. To be notified when the new version comes out which contains the fix you can add yourself to the announcements mailing list.
I haven't yet decided if the new version will be numbered 0.4.1 or 0.5, but I plan to release it soon (definitely this month).

If you wish to confirm that this bug is fixed you can try out one of the Synergy Advance nightly builds. As noted in the nightlies page, these are automated builds which represent a snapshot of the current development status. They are not tested and may have issues of their own; the latest official release (0.4) is still the one that's recommended for daily use.
