Thanks for filing the feature request, Will. My plan all along has been to add support for other IM clients. I am not sure what level of AppleScript support Adium has, but Synergy Advance is designed with an abstraction layer so that it can work with multiple IM clients. Even the communication with iTunes occurs via an abstraction layer so that I will be able to add support for other audio players in the future. The only limitation is imposed by the level of AppleScript support that a given application has; if it has no or limited supported then Synergy Advance won't be able to do much with it.
It's just a matter of writing the plug-ins for these other apps. I am going to add 1.0 as the "milestone" because before tackling that job I want to get the rest of the functionality in place (floater, menu bar buttons, cover downloads etc) to bring Synergy Advance up to par with Synergy. Then I'll get onto adding this extra stuff.

I'll second this feature. Someone has created an interim Konfabulator widget that takes care of the adium/itunes scripting.
The Konfabulator widget is at: http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=36267 and the author is Jordan Place.

I can't connect to widgetgallery.com right now (no response), but I'll try again later. Thanks for commenting!

I also second the request for Adium support. But also for those interested, there are a number of Adium Xtras available to work with iTunes: http://www.adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=search&s=itunes

Yeah, the only problem with most of them is that they are resource hogs (if you use them automatically, like putting them in your status message)
