Feature request #2113: Consider more memoization

Description

The current memoization applies only to the current path/query pair. Type another letter in the same query and you're starting from scratch all over again.

Given unlimited memory, we could memoize every intermediate result ever, not only during specific search events, but across entirely different queries.

On a huge project like Chrome, this would be untenable.

Perhaps there is a useful middle ground.
